Bexleyheath BID has represented over 200 businesses since forming in 2011, running the Christmas Switch-On, the Bexleyheath High Street Awards and town centre wardens. The Broadway Shopping Centre anchors the town, generating an estimated £130 million a year in comparison-goods spend from its catchment.
Retail and related activity makes up around 31% of Bexley's GVA, roughly £483 million a year on 2019 figures, and it's the dominant sector in the town centre by some distance, with national brands sitting alongside a genuine independent trade.
The Bexley Originals Pop-Up Programme, launched after the pandemic with Retail Revival, gave independent traders free space and mentoring in the Broadway and on Welling High Street.
