The short version
This site doesn't run any analytics until you actively accept it via the banner. Nothing is set, and no script is even requested from Google, before that choice is made. If you reject or ignore the banner, the site works exactly the same, nothing is tracked.

Set by Google Analytics to distinguish visitors and sessions, so we can see aggregate patterns like which pages get read and how people found the site.

How the choice works
We use Google's Consent Mode, which sets analytics as denied by default the moment the page loads. If you accept, that default is switched to granted and the Google Analytics script is loaded for the first time, it's never loaded speculatively in the background beforehand. Your choice is remembered so you're not asked again on every visit.
Changing your mind
Click "Cookie preferences" in the footer of any page, at any time, to reopen the banner and change your choice.
